POOL RULES

Dear Neighbours/Owners:

As we enjoy the height of summer, our pool area remains a wonderful place to relax. However, we have received several reports regarding a frustrating issue: chemical reactions causing hair and clothing to turn a greenish tint.

This is primarily caused by a reaction between pool sanitizers (chlorine/copper) and certain compounds found in cosmetic hair dyes, combined with the heavy buildup of water-resistant sunscreens entering the water despite pre-swim showers. Because community pool filtration systems are designed differently than massive hotel plants, they take longer to process these heavy oils.

To protect our pool’s water quality and prevent any further damage to your hair and swimwear, please follow these simple steps in the correct order before and during your time at the pool:

Step 1: Shower thoroughly with soap before entering

Rinsing off under the poolside showers before taking a dip is essential. Using a mild soap helps break down surface oils and sweat before they can wash off into the pool water.

Step 2: Apply suncream well in advance and let it absorb

Apply your sun lotion at least 15 to 20 minutes before coming down to the pool area, allowing it to fully dry and bond to your skin. Avoid using heavy, water-resistant oils right at the poolside just before jumping in.

Step 3: Shower again after swimming to rinse chemicals

Once you finish your swim, head straight to the shower to wash away any lingering chlorinated water, which helps protect both your skin and swimwear fabrics from discoloration over time.

Step 4: Treat dyed hair with extra care

If you have chemically treated or dyed hair, consider wearing a swimming cap or keeping your head above water. Coloured hair is particularly porous and reacts strongly to treated pool water combined with cosmetic residues.

Step 5: Wash swimwear immediately after use

If your swimwear does get exposed, wash it promptly in cold water with mild detergent. Do not let damp, chlorinated suits sit in the sun or in a gym bag, as this sets chemical reactions and fading.

By working together and following these quick habits, we can keep our community pool crystal clear, hygienic, and safe for everyone’s clothes and hair all season long!
